February 6th, 2019

It has been an exciting week!  Over the weekend, a pipe burst in Mrs. Hargreaves room, creating quite the mess!  While it is being repaired, we have been making our home in the Learning Commons.  We are very grateful to Mrs. Brock for sharing her space with us.  We should be back in our classroom next Monday afternoon.

Humanities:
Tomorrow will be the last day for students to have class time to work on their autobiographies.  Students should be finished their good copy and ready to hand it in by the end of class tomorrow.  Anyone who isn't done, will be bringing it home for homework.  Students have been using Google Docs to type up their good copy, which can be accessed at home.  Here is the checklist that we used to write the ending of our autobiographies:

I have checked that my end:
- ends everything – everything should be wrapped up, there should be no new information introduced.
- is interesting, don’t just abruptly end things.
- ties up any loose ends (don’t leave any questions in your reader’s mind
- COPS
- capitals (proper nouns, beginning of a sentence, “I”)
- organization
- punctuation (periods, question mark, comma, exclamation marks, quotation marks, apostrophe)
- spelling (ask Miss. Willis if you are unsure).
- detail and description

Yesterday we had a virtual field trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller.  This trip tied in nicely with what we have been learning about in Humanities, as well as with our whole class novel study of "Dinosaur Fever" by Marion Woodson.  Here are some of the things that we learned:

Math:
This week in Math we have been focusing on ways to compare, order, and sort numbers.

Spelling Tests:
We are working our way through the SRA Spelling Mastery Program and have spelling tests every week.  Students are strongly encouraged to be practicing their words on a nightly basis.  The full list of words can be accessed here:

https://www.bvusd.org/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=1319&dataid=1834&FileName=spelling%20mastery%20word%20lists.pdf

We are currently working on list 66-70, but any words from previous lists can also show up on the test.

Reminders and Important Dates:
- Since we are not in our classroom, and because Friday is going to be a busy day, we will not be doing Home Journals this week.
- Friday is a Grade 2 Learning Assembly at 8:30, Flex Friday, and Movie Night.
- There will be no school next Thursday (February 14th) and Friday (February 15th) for Teachers' Convention.
- There will be no school on Monday February 18th for Family Day.
- We will be going to the Glenbow Museum on Monday March 11th and are still in need of volunteers.  Please contact me if you are available and have your volunteer clearance.

Stay warm!!
